What is Beyond the Rails?
Beyond the Rails is the primary endgame combat activity in Neverness to Everness. Located in the northern part of the Miguel District along Whitetail Ridge Road, this mode challenges players to clear stages (called Stops) within time limits to earn Annuliths — the premium gacha currency.
Unlike other stamina-consuming content, Beyond the Rails does not cost Character Pixels to attempt, making it a pure skill-and-team-check mode.
How to Access Beyond the Rails
Navigate to the bright turquoise-colored icon along Whitetail Ridge Road in the Miguel District. Inside the train station, speak with Miss Levi No. 10320 next to the open train carriage to begin.
While you can reach the location at any level, the content is designed for endgame players with maxed characters. Increase your Hunter Level to unlock higher Ascension tiers before attempting difficult stages.
Route Types
Beyond the Rails features two distinct route categories:
| Route Type | Name | Duration | Reset |
|---|---|---|---|
| Permanent | All-Day Routes (Fracture Circle) | Always available | Never resets |
| Temporary | Special Routes (Prime Circle) | Limited time | Periodic refresh |
All-Day Routes serve as the introduction and provide one-time rewards. Special Routes refresh periodically, resetting all stages and allowing you to earn rewards again — this is your primary recurring source of Annuliths.
Resonance Effects
Each Route has an associated buff called a Resonance Effect that applies to your team during its stages. These are crucial to winning — you cannot afford to waste time, and Resonance Effects provide the damage boost needed for 3-star clears.
| Resonance Effect | Description |
|---|---|
| Law of Stacking Blades | Increases Basic Attack DMG per hit. Stacks up to 10 times. Resets on character swap. |
| Flash of Insight | Increases Cosmos and Anima DMG by 30% for the entire team. |
Always build teams around the active Resonance Effect. The difference they make is significant — a team that synergizes with the current Resonance Effect will dramatically outperform one that doesn’t.
Scoring System
Your goal is to defeat all enemies within the time limit. Clearing faster earns higher ratings:
| Rating | Requirement | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| 3 Stars | Clear within shortest time threshold | Maximum rewards |
| 2 Stars | Clear within medium time threshold | Partial rewards |
| 1 Star | Clear within extended time threshold | Minimum rewards |
Because of the time-pressure scoring, team optimization and combat rotation efficiency are paramount.
Otherworldly Supplies
Otherworldly Supplies are consumable items purchasable with Shadowquills that provide powerful one-time effects during a stage.
Key Rules:
- Each Supply item can only be used once per stage
- Once equipped to a stage, it cannot be reused elsewhere until that stage is re-cleared without the Supply
- Supplies can be Recycled to regain spent Shadowquills
- Effects vary from simple damage boosts to powerful crowd control (e.g., black holes that group enemies)
Strategy:
Use Supplies on stages where you’re just barely missing the 3-star threshold. Don’t waste them on stages you can clear without assistance.
Best Characters for Beyond the Rails
Top Picks
| Character | Role | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hotori | DPS | Freezes the timer when using Ultimate — extremely valuable for tight clears |
| Sakiri | Buffer | Groups enemies together for efficient AoE damage |
| Jiuyuan | DPS | Strong grouping on abilities, excellent burst damage |
| Haniel | Buffer | Team-wide buffs, consistent support value |
| Esper Zero | DPS | Fast Esper Meter generation, high burst potential |
| Baicang | DPS | Excellent AoE damage for grouped enemies |
Team Building Principles
- Bring grouping — Characters that clump enemies (Sakiri, Jiuyuan) enable efficient AoE clears
- Match Resonance Effects — Build around the active buff (e.g., Basic Attack characters for Law of Stacking Blades)
- Maximize burst windows — Time your ultimates and Esper Cycle for maximum damage in short windows
- Include a buffer — Haniel or Sakiri provide the team-wide damage boost needed for 3-star clears
Tips for 3-Star Clears
- Check Enemy Details before each stage — know what you’re facing (element weaknesses, attack patterns)
- Hotori’s time-stop is invaluable — use her Ultimate as often as possible to freeze the countdown
- Group then nuke — Use Sakiri/Jiuyuan to clump enemies, then unleash AoE damage
- Pre-charge Esper Meter — Start stages with meter ready if possible
- Don’t over-dodge — Every second spent dodging is DPS lost; learn which attacks to tank vs. dodge
- Optimize rotations — Practice your team’s damage rotation until it’s muscle memory
- Use Otherworldly Supplies strategically — Save them for stages where you’re 1-2 seconds short of 3 stars
Rewards
